The Scooby Birthday Bison (Cheese)Burger

Scooby the Wonder Dog recently had his 8th birthday, and since his mother was out of the country, we could give Scooby what he wanted for his birthday dinner: a monster cheeseburger! (In deference to her dietary concerns for our baby boy, we used bison meat instead of beef.) It's really rather simple!

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic herb foccacia bread from The Fresh Market, about 12" diameter
  • 1 pound of ground bison meat
  • 3 or 4 slices of your, er, your doggie's favorite cheese for cheeseburgers

Instructions

  1. Take the foccacia bread and slice it horizontally in half like a hamburger bun.

  2. Take the pound of ground bison and make it into a pattie about 1/2" thick. We made the pattie on a piece of parchment paper so we could lift it onto a metal grid that we used for an uber-spatula.

  3. Slap that pattie onto a hot grill and cook the first side. Peel off the parchment paper and close the lid.

We made the pattie, but how we gonna get it off the board?

  4. Flip the burger when you think it's ready. You can see in the second photo below the cheap metal grid from the supermarket that we used as our uber-spatula.

  5. Remove the cheeseburger from the cooker when you feel it is done.

  6. Toast the uber-bun until the cut sides are lightly toasted.

  7. Assemble the burger by placing the bottom of the bun on a plate, add the pattie, then add the top of the bun.

  8. Poke little holes into the top of the bun so you can insert the birthday candles!

  9. Serve up the burger to your Birthday Doggy!!
