How's This For Irony?

A long damn time ago, the city of Raleigh, NC closed 2 blocks of Fayetteville Street downtown and made a pedestrian mall. Man, it was nice at lunch time and when the city hosted events. However, the businesses along this pedestrian mall blamed it for killing their businesses. Since folks couldn't park next to the businesses, they had to park in parking garages or on adjacent streets and walk to the mall. Well, that may have been true, but it was still a nice place at lunch time and when the city hosted events.

Well, you know how "people in charge" are. Over time every damn decision they make becomes like a pendulum. So for 30 years or so, we have had a pedestrian mall. Now, pedestrian malls are out of fashion so the the "people in charge" demonize them and pay millions of taxpayer dollars to rip them out and restore the original street. 30 years from now, we guarandamntee you that Fayetteville Street will once again be a pedestrian mall. But that's another story.

What we found ironic, and we have to credit the wife (yes, the wife who....) for this one. A few months after they "opened" up Fayetteville Street, they decided to have a grand reopening party. So, what did they do to celebrate opening up Fayetteveille Street? They closed Fayetteville Street for the party celebrating opening it back up. We love this place!
